It finally feels like summer in NYC, and so I took the camera on a walking stroll through the lovely streets of Park Slope, Brooklyn. The Psychic in the mirror says I am a happy 8 months pregnant! Very perceptive. :)

This of course is not stopping me from brainstorming some new ideas for the coming year. Babies, babies every where! I am hoping to focus on this miraculous subject matter with both my own bundle and many others. Here's to good things coming!!

Smashion Fashion
This post has been 2 months in the making, but the delay was worth the wait. The amazing Josana Blue, artist and fashionista extrordinaire, asked me to help her put together a portfolio so that she might audition for project runway. Personally I think that she is an absolute shoe-in for the show and should win it hands down... but we are still waiting to hear. Anyhoo, her photo shoot was a blast. All the models were wonderful and the outfits were beautiful. We even got to go play out on the streets of Brooklyn for some more inspiring shots. Here's a few favorites from the day... ENJOY!

Seeing Double!

My friends, Doubleverything, played the Lion's Den not too long ago and I had the pleasure of not only seeing their show but capturing it with my camera. I had a lot of fun with these shots. I let loose with my shutter and had a blast creating lots of light trails eluding to a very double vision feel. I also played a little in the editing room for some funky poster looks. Great job guys and thanks for letting this girl be your paparazzi.

Hot Mama Alert!!
I recently had the pleasure of photographing my friend Rana and her beautiful belly. Due in late September she is one hot mama. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and Rana could not have been a more perfect subject. She is completely comfortable in her skin and it shows. I can't thank her enough for allowing me to immortalize this momentous occasion for her and her handsome hubby, Sean.

Breaking New Ground

It seems like forever since my last update...and so it appears that would be true! Sugarstar has relocated to NY and so please excuse the absence. I am till unpacking and trying to settle in to my new abode. NYC is one of my favorite places in the world and so I am thrilled to be back. It is my hope to break new boundaries here. I would like to continue my work with portraits but I am also hoping to dive into more landscape/object work, as well as fasion photography. My boundaries are that there aren't any. I'm ready to take it all on.

I have started this journey by attaining an internship working for a well established photography company in SoHo. I hope to devour everything I can about the biz. Good things to come folks!!

That being said, I'd like to introduce the newest member of the Sugarstar clan, Roscoe.
I found the little guy on the streets and couldn't just leave him there. He shows his gratitude with endless purring and snuggling.

Happy Valentine's Day!

It was a cold and icy one here in the land of Jersey. The hubby is out salting and plowing so it's a good thing nothing romantic was planned. I am wishing for warmer days full of sunshine.

I've been editing pictures for a wedding album and came across this one. The combination of bubbles and the sunny warm day put me in a happy state of mind. :)

New Beginnings...

Introducing the new business card for Sugarstar Photography!!! Woot!

I absolutely love my new card. This is baby Nate. He is simply adorable and I had the best time at his photoshoot. His parents are dear friends of mine and swore up and down that their kiddo was going to make me famous. Well, I'm taking them up on that one. :)

Vegan Yummies!
So, I think I'm going to start a new section on here called Vegan Yummies, which will combine my photography with vegan treats that I make. I'm trying to get in the kitchen more (especially since going vegan), even though my free time is sparse, so this will inspire me to keep at it. This will also be a treat for me, because I've never done much photography with food...I'm more a people person. This will indeed expand my horizons in both departments. YAH!

My first attempt....vegan pizza!! Let's just say it was a learning experience... that I will gladly try again and again...YUM!

I do not have any pictures of the making of the dough, because my hands where all gooed up from kneading the dough, but it was a combination of yeast, water, flour, olive oil, and salt. Then I spread it out, added tomato sauce, then the cooked veggies, follow your heart mozzarella, and vegan pepperoni, then a dash of salt and in the oven she went for 20 minutes at 450.

One of the many reasons I miss the city...you can see just about anything walking down the street. This guy was great and even posed for me!

Vegetarian Dim Sum: This place was crazy and cool. Somehow they jam packed all 16-18 of us in. The funny thing was how much water they gave us. This picture does it no justice but there were at least 3 glasses of water in front of each of us at one point in time. Sorry there are no pictures of the food, I was too busy eating it. ;)

...and of course, the incredibly cute reason I was there to begin with! Elise & Pat, my vegan pals!

Vegans & Sugarstar do Manhattan...
This past Saturday I spent the majority of my day wandering around lower Manhattan with my friend Elise and her hubby Pat. It was such a treat for me. I just adore NYC and even lived there for a spell, so being back was like putting on an old pair of sneakers. Speaking of sneakers, I wish I'd worn some. Every the fashionista, I wore my most comfortable faux leather boots with chunk heel. It feels like you are walking on clouds for the first 4 hours of non-stop walking, but then one must sit down and not ever walk again. Searching all of China Town for a bar, was probably not the best plan for those boots. Oh well, I had a blast anyway. Elise and Pat took me to dine with a bunch of Vegan Freak friends that were meeting up at a Vegetarian Dim Sum restaurant. One of the Vegans, Rich, ordered a bunch of food off the menu and we passed it around. Yum! Yum! Blech! and Yum! Okay, so I gave it all in all 3 Yums. :) Enough typing though, let's get on with the pictures...

My friend Elise...

I just wanted to take a moment to give props to a very dear friend of mine. Her name is Elise and she is my vegan, witchy, artist friend. She inspires me every day to be a better person and artist.

Growing up I never did dig the whole meat thing. I thought it smelled bad and the thought of eating animals just didn't appeal to me. A few years back I met my husband, a meat and potato guy, and my world shifted. We fell in love and a new world opened up to me. For the first time, this hippie chica tried meat. I'm not going to lie to you, it tasted pretty damn good...and so began my meat eating days. The newness of it did wear off after a while though and I started eating less of it, and only on occasion, but I still ate it. Then I met Elise.

Elise, her husband and her kid are all vegan (no animal products). It's a beautiful thing. As her and I have grown closer as friends (we are truly soul sisters), I have learned a lot...about myself mostly, but also about the world around me. It is for this reason that on January 18th, around the time I started this blog, I vowed to be a vegetarian. I am also about 3 steps away from going vegan, but not quite there yet. This is a choice I've made for myself, and not without consequence. My husband is still the meat and potato guy, which makes for interesting meal time, but I am strong and value my beliefs so I know everything will be okay with time. Our love is strong and will pull us through....and maybe one day he'll make the switch too, doubtful, but one can hope.

So, I just really wanted to share that with you or perhaps just vent it. I also just really wanted to tell you to go check out Elise's website and blog. Her artwork is divine and her blog is an awakening that you will not regret.

A new leaf...

I am in the process of putting together some actual pictures to post on my bloggie here. Yes, I realise I am a little slow going in this process right now, and how can this gal have a photography blog without any pictures, but I'm getting there...I promise. I am still learning the ins and outs of "blogger" and trying to get a grip on the combining of the creative/techie part of my brain. I understand it's not rocket science but I am a perfectionist when it comes to my artistic ways, so forgive the delay. Hey, at least I'm posting. Ha ha!

So, since I am not quite ready to post anything truly exciting, I will post some very good reasons why I love photography. Portraits are my absolute favorite to do...especially baby portraits. Other then the fact that I LOVE babies (seriously, who doesn't!?), there is a pure quality that emanates from the face of a baby that is beyond words. For that reason I am thrilled to be the one chosen to translate through my pictures. That being said, here are some photos taken by the loving parents of some super sweet clients. As you can see, I really dig the perks.
